Press Release from David McLain, Director of Schools

Based on survey results, a majority of parents want their children to return to the classroom in August while others are interested in a virtual option for the Fall.  As a district, we are planning to offer a choice to parents to meet the needs of the families in our community.

For those wishing to send their children back to the classrooms, we will have protocols in place to limit interactions and will increase cleanliness efforts.  We have been working with a team of community stakeholders to determine specific steps we can take, and we are confident that most families will be supportive of the measures we are taking and will send their children to school for in-person instruction.  Specific details of the plans will be approved by the Board and made public in July upon approval. We promise to be responsive to the needs of our students and will follow guidelines regarding COVID-19 in the most reasonable and practical ways possible.

If you are not comfortable sending your child back to the classroom for in-person instruction, we are going to offer an online virtual learning option for children to remain enrolled in the Greene County School system, without physically attending the school.  This option will be available to all Greene County Residents, and there will be no fees associated with the program.

In order to better plan for the Fall, we need to know who will be interested in the virtual program.  If you would prefer for your child to receive instruction virtually in the Fall, we need you to call our central office to pre-register for the online option by Friday June 26th 2020.  The number for our office is 423-639-4194, and someone is available to answer the phones from 8:00-4:00 Monday –Friday.
